EMDR Intensives… Healing at Your Pace

EMDR intensives are specialized treatment plans for healing. We condense therapy into a few days of targeted support. The benefits of EMDR intensives versus traditional therapy include:

  • Accelerated Healing: EMDR intensives allow for deeper and more sustained therapy that go beyond the 50 minute, traditional, insurance based treatment. This leads to faster and meaningful results.
  • Focused sessions: We develop a plan together to target the areas you would like to work on. With concentrated work, you are more likely to achieve your goals in a shorter time frame.
  • Less time between sessions: With intensives the work is continuous and uninterrupted so that you don’t lose momentum. This helps you to integrate the progress more effectively through deeper processing in a contained environment.

Consider EMDR Intensives if…

  • You are ready for relief now: If you’re ready to see things change in your life and your relationships but you don’t want to wait for that to happen next year- an EMDR Intensive may be right for you.
  • You are feeling stuck in traditional therapy: If you feel like you keep going over the same things in traditional talk therapy, an EMDR intensive might be helpful. You don’t have to fire your current therapist. Often people keep their primary therapist and use intensives to address a specific aspect of healing.
  • Want to get right to work: In traditional talk therapy a lot of time is spent checking in at the beginning of each session or regaining composure at the end, or addressing frequent emerging crises or concerns that distract from the original goals.
  • Have experienced trauma: If it is a single event or complex trauma, EMDR intensives can help process and integrate those experiences so that you can experience relief.

Why is this worth my time and money?

EMDR Intensives are more effective and efficient than normal 50-minute therapy sessions. Typically in a 50 minute session, there are at least 5-10 minutes of checking-in at the start of the session and usually 5-10 minutes spent on closing up or containing at the end of a session. Leaving only 30-40 minutes for deep therapeutic work. EMDR intensives are different. A 3-hour EMDR intensive allows for at least 2.5 hours of depth work. That’s the equivalent of five 50-minute sessions or mor than a month of therapy- in a single day!

How does this work?

We start with a short 15-20 minute virtual meeting to connect and ensure that EMDR intensives are the right service for your needs at this time. You will be sent a FAQ sheet and screening questionnaire. If you have a primary therapist, this can be done with or without them.

Once you have committed to this process, we set up a pre-intensive interview. This 90 minute session will be used to identify goals and prepare for the experience. We will identify the painful memories, beliefs, emotions, or images that caused you to seek this treatment.

EMDR Intensive sessions take place at my office in Saint Paul or virtually. Intensive sessions are scheduled for 1-3 days for 3 hours each session. This includes targeted treatment and resourcing exercises that support you in this work. It is best to allow time outside of sessions to be unscheduled or supported by self care activities like connecting with nature, body work, exercise, or creative expression.

We follow up with a 1 hour post-intensive session to debrief the experience and reflect on areas of transformation and relief. We discuss the next steps for your continued growth and healing.

Can I use insurance to pay for my EMDR Intensives?

Unfortunately, no. This service is outside of the confines of what is traditionally covered by insurance. However, you can use HSA funds if that is an option for you.

When are payments due?

A 50% non-refundable deposit is due at the time when we schedule your pre-intensive interview. The remaining is due at the first 3 hour intensive session (after the interview).
